Talentime

Talentime (2009) is a Malaysian Drama film directed and written by Yasmin Ahmad. Talentine major actors are Mahesh Jug al Kishor as Mahesh, Pamela Chong as Melur, Amelia Henderson as Melati, Kahoe Hon as Kahoe (as Kahoe Howard Hon), Elza Irdalynna as Mawar, Mohd Syafie Naswip as Hafiz.

The film is about a talentime event in the secondary highschool. Only seven teachers been chosen for the talented student. The main character Mahesh is a Indian deaf boy. He born from a single parent family because of her father died. Mahesh attended his uncle arrange married. However, his uncle killed after the wedding day. Mahesh wanted to find his true love. Mahesh fallen in love with Melur. Melur is good pianist and song writer talented student. Melur born in the family with British, Malay, Chinese with muslim culture and rich family. The important side character in the film is Hafiz. Hafiz's mother is sick and she need to stayed at the General Hospital. Hafiz written songs to cure her mother's illness and wins the prize for paid the Hospital. The finals talentime is Hafiz and Kahoe perform until the end of the film. The protagonist is the film is Kahoe.

Talentime film can develop few chill stories to the audiences. A deaf Mahesh tried to connect his heart to Melur. We can respect the deaf people. The Malaysian film always focus on culture value in Malaysia. In 2019, Malaysia wins a lot of prize in International Traditional Dance Competition. Malaysian film remind the visual arts from the Malay, Chinese, Indian and British culture. This film showed multiracial and multilingualism in Malaysia society. Malaysian society remind the culture and religious belief in this film. The racist part is Mahesh's mother hate Muslim Indian neighbour and Muslim mixed Western and Chinese family. The weakness of the film is showed the racists problem towards the Muslim Indian audiences. The kindness of the teenagers character tried to respect each others family sad issues. Hafiz grown mature because of his mother situation. This is the sad life stories. Someone may faces the same problem during their teenagers age. Majority stories teenagers quite mature. This film no ending. The ending, Hafiz might wins the prize to save his mother's life. The ending is singing perform with no true winner. Where is the keypoint of the cancerous patient waited for. The cure or the death. Hafiz's mother is also a very important characters.

The talentime used the mise en scene tell multiculturalism in Malaysia. Malaysia is a film production made culture become a unique and important point in the film. The character showed the moral value among each other religious and cultural. Kahoe perform used chinese traditional music instrument. The students not select showed a different traditional perform such as singing malay traditional song, read malay poem, chinese student perform traditional chinese dance with fans, and more. The teachers and the talent wear traditional malay baju kurung, Indian saree and chinese chong sang costume. The different family has different background. Background let the audiences see the furniture of multicultural perspective. The practices, religious and belief in the characters dialog. The wedding and the sad uncle dead is followed indian culture. The characters dialog with multi languages.  Everything in the film is really more focus on the different point of view characters' story and the culture they have.
