The film is about the real political issues at Malaysia on 1987 October 18 and 1969 May 13. The filmmaker is interviewed people about a soldier named Prebet Adam. Predet Adam shooting at Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The interview about this case. Most of the people told the media they situation on 1987 October 18. Only one uncle told the media about the rumour. Secondly, the news about a racist war called May 13 incident. Most of the people in the film are supported they own races for these 1969 May 13 incident. Thirdly, the filmmakers asked the opinion from people about the ISA case. Lastly, the political news about many Prime Ministers and UMNO.Description
The political issues and news always complicated and hard to understand. In my first experience when I watched The Big Durian. I do not know anything about Predet Adam run amok. After I watched this film I realise we cannot trust the film rumour. The spoken words from people might be wrong. In research (Royce Tan, The Star, 2018) Adam's sister Hawa Jaafar apology to Johor Royal Family on 2018 because of the rumour spreaded on 1987. Adam's sister died at the fire on 1985. Adam no brother been killed by Sultan's Golf Caddy. Hawa Jaafar's photo on (New Jo-Lyn 2018). The filmmaker's narrative said that had no victim dead and few people injured. However, the news (Straits Times 2017) reported Che Soh Che Mahmud been killed during Adam shooting. There are many victims been gunshot not very few victims.Analysis
At the very beginning of this film, a girl talked with full of emotion and she wears traditional baju kurung and sarong. She sat in front of the wooden house. I knew that She is an actress. She appears at the ending of the scene and said " I want to be like him." The actress with very emotional tears in eyes and her pose very good. The scene she talked with many film settings. The colour balance and film temperature is high quality colour and good lighting settings. She is an actress with make up and nice costume. The dialog are professional and bizarre when she wants to be like Predet Adam. The film technique mixed real actors and actress with the non-actors.The fifth voice showed the politic details in the film are extreme sensitive. The audiences must not young children. A Malay man, tanned skin and wears white T-shirt talked from morning until the sky is dark. I realised he is an actor. Because non-actor cannot stayed there and talked without eat some food. Most the scene shot is middle shot. Establish shot of environment is part of the art of film. The lighting is natural lighting except the first Malay girl at the wooden house and the man works at the audio studio. The scene at the audio studio is used Low Angle Shoot camera technique.
The film mise en-scene is Kuala Lumpur. The film used old photography of Kuala Lumpur explained the history of Petronas Tower (KLCC). The images editing technique used to gave information to the audiences such as old black and white photography of Adam Jaafar, The photography of news papers, old KL photo and more. The film interview followed the person who saw Adam's rampaged at Chow Kit. The footage showed more clear about the happened and the location of Predet Adam surrended. Most of the film footage are discontinuity editing.
Conclusion
In conclusion, The narrative lack of knowledge about the truth using the powerful of film media to spread wrong messages. I learned that we cannot simply trusted the documentary film. Because the news reporters they keep the old news as their evidence inside their news station. Malaysian really care about the politic. One of the reason of the film been banned from Malaysian Government because spread wrong message and fake information to the audiences. The interview must be the particular person on the happened to avoid wrong information. The media production must be super responsive to read news papers and combine the research materials. I afraid of the wrong message spread by the entertainment media and personal writer's article.Entertainment Film Production had the power to destroy the society by given wrong details for the incidents. Filmmakers are not logic enough and not serious enough to spoken narrative. The incidents are very serious happened issues.References
